Message from Managing Partner – extension of 24 hr. curfew in SKN

As we continue to monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and in fulfillment of our continued commitment to keep you, our Clients, Partners and Associates updated of our firm’s operations during this time, we take this opportunity to inform that the Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris has since announced that, effective 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2020, the 24-hour curfew then in place, was extended to 6:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2020.

As such, the Regulations made under the Emergency Powers Act, has also been extended. What does this mean, you ask? During this extended State of Emergency and the COVID-19 Regulations made under the Emergency Powers Act, no one is allowed to be outside of their place of residence. There are special exemptions, which include but are not limited to essential workers or persons with a pass or permission from the Commissioner of Police.

In terms of statistics, to date, there are twelve (12) confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the Federation. Regular testing has been ongoing and extensive restrictions have been put in place to limit the spread of the virus. St. Kitts and Nevis continues to mandate that persons who have been confirmed are quarantined in a government facility, while others are quarantined at home or asked to remain in isolation. On the positive side, many persons have been released from quarantine and there have been no COVID related deaths in St. Kitts and Nevis.

As the Federation continues to combat the spread of this pandemic, we join them in instituting measures; measures aimed at providing support and being productive, remotely. In terms of any emergency applications, please note that the E-Portal remains available and the E-Portal Help Desk has pledged to continue to provide the necessary support. Please do not hesitate to contact us, if any such circumstances arise.

In terms of already filed matters, the firm has taken the opportunity to review each and every file and ensure that all outstanding actions are brought up to date. Therefore, during this time, you may receive emails from our Clients’ Case Manager, in terms of required information, documents and/or general updates. This would allow us to hit the ground running, as soon as the relevant restrictions are lifted.

We remain committed to providing the same level of legal services to each of our clients as well as any new clients, as we not only value our relationships with you, but the trust you have instilled in us. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns at any time. Should you wish to contact us, please do so by email at derriann@charlesandassociateslaw.com and by phone via (869) 667-7162.

We will respond to your emails in a timely manner.

We take this opportunity to continue to wish you well and hope that you and your families stay safe and healthy.

Regards,

Derriann P. Charles
